THROW THE WINTER BLUES AWAY: EAT ICE CREAM!

We all have the sensation that this winter is taking forever to go away.

It’s cold, it’s dark, it is…. just blue. And there are some reasons for that. The seasonal affective disorder (SAD) has been widely investigated and its relation to the shorter exposure to daylight has been explained by many scientists. In an article published by the National Health Service of UK, a mental health specialist states that “SAD sufferers are affected by shorter daylight hours in the winter. They produce higher melatonin, causing lethargy and symptoms of depression.”

An article in Psychology Today mentioned the results from a study done by a team of researchers, led by Lukas Van Oudenhove at the University of Leuven, Belgium, in which images of activity in the brain during times of sadness were published. Then they looked at how the images changed when a fat solution was introduced into the stomach. “The brain images revealed what ice cream lovers have long known: the brain’s responses to sadness were significantly reduced when the fatty solution was infused into the stomach.”
Ice cream contains protein, which is made of amino acids, this will increase the level of energy and alertness of your brain.
